摘要： Reducing the total power consumption and network delay are among the most interesting issues facing large-scale Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) systems and their ability to satisfy the Service Level Agreement (SLA). Such systems utilize cloud computing infrastructure to support offloading some of user's computationally heavy tasks to the cloud's datacenters. However, the delay incurred by such offloading process lead the use of servers (called cloudlets) placed in the physical proximity of the users, creating what is known as Mobile Edge Computing (MEC). The cloudlet-based infrastructure has its challenges such as the limited capabilities of the cloudlet system (in terms of the ability to serve different request types from users in vast geographical regions). To cover the users demand for different types of services and in vast geographical regions, cloudlets cooperate among each other by passing user requests from one cloudlet to another. This cooperation affects both power consumption and delay. In this work, we present a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) optimization model for MEC systems with these two issues in mind. Specifically, we consider two types of cloudlets: local cloudlets and global cloudlets, which have higher capabilities. A user connects to a local cloudlet and sends all of its traffics to it. If the local cloudlet cannot serve the desired request, then the request is moved to another local cloudlet. If no local cloudlet can serve the request, then it is moved to a global cloudlet which can serve all service types. The process of routing requests through the hierarchical network of cloudlets increases power consumption and delay. Our model minimizes power consumption while incurring an acceptable amount of delay. We evaluate it under several realistic scenarios to show that it can indeed be used for power optimization of large-scale MEC systems without violating delay constraints.

摘要： Vehicular Edge Computing architectures are projected recently that support expedient task offloading. However, in vehicular environments the character of the wireless channel and convenience of resources is unpredictable. Effective utilization of vehicular resources remains a challenge. To beat this challenge, the current work proposes Architecture and Channel Aware Task Offloading in Vehicular Clouds (ACATOVC) protocol for efficient task offloading in vehicular networks. 摘要： In order to better accommodate the dramatically increasing demand for data caching and computing services, storage and computation capabilities should be endowed to some of the intermediate nodes within the network, therefore increasing the data throughput and reducing the network operation cost. In this paper, we design a novel information-centric heterogeneous networks framework aiming at enabling content caching and computing. Furthermore, due to the virtualization of the whole system, communication, computing, and caching resources can be shared among all users associated with different virtual service providers. We formulate the virtual resource allocation strategy as a joint optimization problem, where the gains of not only virtualization but also caching and computing are taken into consideration in the proposed information-centric heterogeneous networks virtualization architecture. In addition, a distributed algorithm based on alternating direction method of multipliers is adopted in order to solve the formulated problem. Since each base station only needs to solve its own problem without exchange of channel state information by using the distributed algorithm, the computational complexity and signaling overhead can be greatly reduced. Finally, extensive simulations are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme under different system parameters.

摘要： The multitiered concept of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, cloudlets, and clouds is facilitating a user-centric IoT. However, in such three tier network, it is still desirable to investigate efficient strategies to offer the computing, storage, and communications resources to the users. To this end, this paper proposes a new hierarchical model by introducing the concept of field, shallow, and deep cloudlets where the cloudlet tier itself is designed in three hierarchical levels based on the principle of LTE-advanced backhaul network. Accordingly, we explore a two time scale approach in which the computing resources are offered in an auction-based profit maximization manner and then the communications resources are allocated to satisfy the users' quality of service.

摘要： —A promising technique to provide mobile applications with high computation resources is to offload the processing task to the cloud. Utilizing the abundant processing capabilities of the clouds, mobile edge computing enables mobile devices with limited batteries to run resource hungry applications and to save power. However, it is not always true that edge computing consumes less power compared to device computing. It may take more power for the mobile device to transmit a file to the cloud than running the task itself. This paper investigates the power minimization problem for the mobile devices by data offloading in multi-cell multi-user OFDMA mobile edge computing networks. We consider the maximum acceptable delay as QoS metric to be satisfied in our network. We formulate the problem as a mixed integer nonlinear problem which is converted into a convex form using D.C. approximation. To solve the converted optimization problem, we have proposed centralized and distributed algorithms for joint power allocation and channel assignment together with decision-making. Simulation results illustrate that by utilizing the proposed algorithms, considerable power savings can be achieved, e.g., about 60% for large bit stream size compared to local computing baseline. 摘要： Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) as an emerging paradigm utilizing cloudlet or fog nodes to extend remote cloud computing to the edge of the network, is foreseen as a key technology towards next generation wireless networks. By offloading computation intensive tasks from resource constrained mobile devices to fog nodes or the remote cloud, the energy of mobile devices can be saved and the computation capability can be enhanced. For fog nodes, they can rent the resource rich remote cloud to help them process incoming tasks from mobile devices. In this architecture, the benefit of short computation and computation delay of mobile devices can be fully exploited. However, existing studies mostly assume fog nodes possess unlimited computing capacity, which is not practical, especially when fog nodes are also energy constrained mobile devices. To provide incentive of fog nodes and reduce the computation cost of mobile devices, we provide a cost effective offloading scheme in mobile edge computing with the cooperation between fog nodes and the remote cloud with task dependency constraint. The mobile devices have limited budget and have to determine which task should be computed locally or sent to the fog. To address this issue, we first formulate the offloading problem as a task finish time minimization problem with given budgets of mobile devices, which is NP-hard. We then devise two more algorithms to study the network performance. Simulation results show that the proposed greedy algorithm can achieve the near optimal performance. On average, the Brute Force method and the greedy algorithm outperform the simulated annealing algorithm by about 28.13% on the application finish time. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. 摘要： Mobile edge computing (MEC) and fog are emerging computing models that extend the cloud and its services to the edge of the network. The emergence of both MEC and fog introduce new requirements, which mean their supported deployment models must be investigated. In this paper, we point out the influence and strong impact of the extended cloud (i.e., the MEC and fog) on existing communication and networking service models of the cloud. Although the relation between them is fairly evident, there are important properties, notably those of security and resilience, that we study in relation to the newly posed requirements from the MEC and fog. Although security and resilience have been already investigated in the context of the cloud-to a certain extent-existing solutions may not be applicable in the context of the extended cloud. Our approach includes the examination of models and architectures that underpin the extended cloud, and we provide a contemporary discussion on the most evident characteristics associated with them. We examine the technologies that implement these models and architectures, and analyze them with respect to security and resilience requirements. Furthermore, approaches to security and resilience-related mechanisms are examined in the cloud (specifically, anomaly detection and policy-based resilience management), and we argue that these can also be applied in order to improve security and achieve resilience in the extended cloud environment.

摘要： Merging mobile edge computing (MEC) functionality with the dense deployment of base stations (BSs) provides enormous benefits such as a real proximity, low latency access to computing resources. However, the envisioned integration creates many new challenges, among which mobility management (MM) is a critical one. Simply applying existing radio access-oriented MM schemes leads to poor performance mainly due to the co-provisioning of radio access and computing services of the MEC-enabled BSs. In this paper, we develop a novel user-centric energy-aware mobility management (EMM) scheme, in order to optimize the delay due to both radio access and computation, under the long-term energy consumption constraint of the user. Based on Lyapunov optimization and multi-armed bandit theories, EMM works in an online fashion without future system state information, and effectively handles the imperfect system state information. Theoretical analysis explicitly takes radio handover and computation migration cost into consideration and proves a bounded deviation on both the delay performance and energy consumption compared with the oracle solution with exact and complete future system information. The proposed algorithm also effectively handles the scenario in which candidate BSs randomly switch ON/OFF during the offloading process of a task. Simulations show that the proposed algorithms can achieve close-to-optimal delay performance while satisfying the user energy consumption constraint.

摘要： Mobile edge computing is of particular interest to Internet of Things (IoT), where inexpensive simple devices can get complex tasks offloaded to and processed at powerful infrastructure. Scheduling is challenging due to stochastic task arrivals and wireless channels, congested air interface, and more prominently, prohibitive feedbacks from thousands of devices. In this paper, we generate asymptotically optimal schedules tolerant to out-of-date network knowledge, thereby relieving stringent requirements on feedbacks. A perturbed Lyapunov function is designed to stochastically maximize a network utility balancing throughput and fairness. A knapsack problem is solved per slot for the optimal schedule, provided up-to-date knowledge on the data and energy backlogs of all devices. The knapsack problem is relaxed to accommodate out-of-date network states. Encapsulating the optimal schedule under up-to-date network knowledge, the solution under partial out-of-date knowledge preserves asymptotic optimality, and allows devices to self-nominate for feedback. Corroborated by simulations, our approach is able to dramatically reduce feedbacks at no cost of optimality. The number of devices that need to feed back is reduced to less than 60 out of a total of 5000 IoT devices.

摘要： To realize cooperative computation and communication in a relay mobile edge computing system, we develop a hybrid relay forward protocol, where we seek to balance the execution delay and network energy consumption. The problem is formulated as a nondifferentialbe optimization problem which is nonconvex with highly coupled constraints. By exploiting the problem structure, we propose a lightweight algorithm based on inexact block coordinate descent method. Our results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits much faster convergence as compared with the popular concave-convex procedure based algorithm, while achieving good performance.
